Frequently Asked Questions

Which races are counted in these stats?

Only the official Saturday broadcast races are counted in the VCR Standings. These races occur every Saturday at 17:00 GMT (5:00 PM GMT).

The series tracks the IMSA Vintage Series which features two car classes:

  • Nissan GTP ZX-Turbo
  • Audi 90 GTO

What are Overall Championships and Junior Championships?

Overall Championship The main championship that all drivers compete in, regardless of iRating. This tracks overall performance across the season.

Junior Championship A secondary championship for lower-iRating drivers to compete among themselves. This helps newer or developing drivers track their progress against peers of similar skill level.

Drivers can earn points in both championships simultaneously - their overall championship points and their junior championship points (if eligible).

How is someone eligible for Junior or Overall Championships?

Overall Championship All drivers are automatically eligible. Everyone who completes at least 75% of the winner's laps earns overall championship points.

Junior Championship Drivers are eligible if their iRating is below the season threshold (typically 3000). The threshold is checked using the driver's pre-race iRating (old_irating).

For example, if the threshold is 3000:

  • A driver with 2960 iRating is eligible (2960 < 3000)
  • A driver with 3050 iRating is NOT eligible (3050 ≥ 3000)

Special Penalty Rule (Week 9+): From week 9 onwards, the top 3 drivers in the junior championship can continue earning junior points even if their iRating exceeds the threshold, but they receive a points penalty.

How are points calculated for Overall Championships?

Overall championship points are awarded based on finish position within your car class in the top split (Split 1):

Position Points
1st25
2nd22
3rd20
4th18
5th16
6th15
7th14
8th13
9th12
10th11
11th10
12th9
13th8
14th7
15th6
16th5
17th4
18th3
19th2
20th1

Important: You must complete at least 75% of the winner's laps to be classified and earn points.

How are points calculated for Junior Championships?

Junior championship points depend on whether the race has a single split or multiple splits:

Single Split Events

When a race has only one split, junior drivers earn the same points scale as the official championship:

Position Points
1st15
2nd12
3rd10
4th8
5th6
6th5
7th4
8th3
9th2
10th1
Multi-Split Events (2+ splits)

When a race has multiple splits, points are distributed differently:

Split 1:
Position Points
1st14
2nd9
3rd5
4th3
5th1
6th+0
Split 2+:
Position Points
1st15
2nd12
3rd10
4th8
5th6
6th5
7th4
8th3
9th2
10th1

Note: Split numbering is based on the order splits are created, NOT on Strength of Field. Junior position is determined among junior-eligible drivers only within each split.

Penalty Rule (Week 9+)

From week 9 onwards, the top 3 drivers in the junior standings can earn junior points even if their iRating exceeds the threshold, but with penalties:

  • Single split events: -4 points
  • Multi-split Split 1: -3 points
  • Multi-split Split 2+: -4 points

Example: A top-3 junior with iRating > 3000 finishing P1 in Split 1 of a multi-split event would get 11 points (14 - 3).

How are championship positions determined?

Championship positions are ranked by total points earned throughout the season. In case of a tie, the following tiebreakers are applied in order:

  1. Most wins: Driver with more 1st place finishes ranks higher
  2. Most 2nd places: Driver with more 2nd place finishes ranks higher
  3. Most 3rd places: Driver with more 3rd place finishes ranks higher
  4. Best average finish: Driver with better average finishing position ranks higher

Points are calculated separately for each car class, so you'll see separate standings for Nissan GTP and Audi 90 GTO.

What happens when a race has multiple splits?

When enough drivers register for a race, iRacing may create multiple "splits" - separate racing sessions that run simultaneously. Each split is its own independent race.

Overall Championship Only drivers in the top split (Split 1) earn overall championship points. Points are based on their finishing position within their car class.

Junior Championship Points differ between Split 1 and other splits (see the "Junior Championship points" question above). Split 1 awards reduced points compared to Split 2 and higher.

Important: Split numbers are assigned based on when the split is created by iRacing, NOT by Strength of Field or skill level. Split 1 is simply the first split created.

Why am I not showing up in the standings?

There are a few reasons you might not appear in the standings:

  • You haven't completed a race yet: You need to finish at least one official Saturday broadcast race to appear in the standings.
  • You didn't complete enough laps: You must complete at least 75% of the winner's laps to be classified and earn points.
  • Race hasn't been processed: New races are typically processed within a few hours after they complete.
  • Wrong series: Only races in the IMSA Vintage Series on Saturdays at 17:00 GMT count.

For Junior Championships specifically, your iRating must be below the season threshold (typically 3000) to be eligible.

How often is the data updated?

Race results are typically fetched and processed within a few hours after each official Saturday race completes. The standings and statistics are automatically recalculated whenever new race data is imported.

Historical data is pulled from iRacing's official API and includes all past seasons of the IMSA Vintage Series.
